More Generic Drugs Rather Than Branded Ones Under Medicare?

The announcement last year by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services was that only US FDA approved drugs would be covered under these schemes when it came to any particular health problem. So if you want a particular drug for a particular ailment, it has to be in the Medicare formularies list.

However, many of the drug plans under Medicare are not too clear about which drugs they cover so it means that seniors could very well be in a quandary about what to buy and what not to when it comes to prescription drugs for their ailments.

Where you do get a pretty comprehensive list about what drugs are covered is in the official Medicare website. However, all the mandatory data which is required to accompany the listing of the drugs does not seem to be up. What is also a bit unnerving is the fact that many seniors find it difficult to find what they want online and the website does not seem to be very user-friendly. And what about the ones that are disabled and do not have access to the Internet?

So seniors have to rely on aggressive sales staff or spend more on high priced drugs. When this comes together with rising healthcare premiums, it means dark days ahead for many seniors who cannot generate any more money than they have right now. On fact, some plans look like they could rise astronomically by as much as 60%. It means that seniors who are in the low income bracket will have to change their healthcare plans. Does the future hold out any hope at all of affordable prescription drug coverage for our seniors?
