SWKAAA And Medicare In Part D Enrollment

The Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging had combined itself with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for a Medicare Part D Fall Annual Enrollment event on The 12th of December 2007 at Dodge City. The event was held at The Learning Center, 308 West Frontview Street, on US 50 Bypass next to True Value.

People were advised to bring their Medicare cards, their list of medications, dosage and how they were administered. Social Security and SRS was available to check whether beneficiaries could qualify for Extra Help or Medicare Savings Programs. The federal and state programs assisted people with Medicare who were not capable of affording their prescription drug costs.

During the annual enrollment for prescription drug coverage, people with Medicare can compare and select a drug plan that best meets their needs for 2008. People with Medicare were urged to assess their health and drug usage, and to compare the results and analyze any new steps they could take with other area plans and choose a plan that’s best for them, and their own medical and financial records. Experts were available to assist and enroll all Medicare beneficiaries in any new plans that they had chosen to do so. Beneficiaries were also urged to act by mid-December if they wished to sign up for a new plan, to make better transitions into 2008.

There were even bilingual volunteers who were more than helpful especially with the beneficiaries who spoke Spanish. Parallel to the event, the Dodge City Fire Department also shared fire safety information along with other non-profit organizations.
