Campus Birth Control May Get A Discount

College campus birth control may become more inexpensive. The 2009 federal budget bill signed by President Obama may make this a reality. This, according to a report coming in from the Kansas City Star. There will be once again incentives for pharmaceutical companies to give discounts on contraceptives. These discounts were lost some time back under a deficit reduction law.

The discounts will not be required to be offered and prices will need to be negotiated by schools. The discounts came through partially as a result of the American College Health Association. They are happy that their efforts have borne fruit. According to an estimation from the association about 40 percent of women in college take birth control pills.

While discounts were on, about $5 was being spent monthly for the discounts. After the discounts were taken away about $15 was spent monthly.

In other news, U.S. medical students choosing internal medicine residencies has decreased by one percent over each of the past two years.
